At Total Maternal Support, our work is rooted in systemic justice, human dignity, and collective power. We believe that true transformation requires both deep, compassionate care and bold, strategic action.
Beliefs require action. Here is how we put our values into practice to build sustainable, long-term change. Here is our approach and what it means in practice.
We bridge the knowledge gap by sharing clear, practical, and evidence-based information, equipping clients, families, and providers to advocate for themselves and others.
We push beyond individual care to influence policy, amplify marginalized voices, and challenge unjust systems within healthcare and maternal support ecosystems.
We partner with birth workers, care providers, and community leaders to build sustainable, cooperative business models—ensuring those who care for our communities are economically valued and supported.
These foundational principles guide every decision we make, every relationship we build, and every space we hold.
We center bodily autonomy, safe birthing experiences, and equitable care for all. We actively work to address maternal health disparities and dismantle systemic barriers, ensuring that high-quality care is a right, not a privilege.
We honor every individual’s lived experience and background. Through deep listening, continuous self-reflection, and inclusive practices, we cultivate safe, affirming environments built on genuine trust and respect.
We believe you are the ultimate expert on your own body, health, and family. We honor your right to make fully informed, self-directed choices without judgment or coercion.
Health does not exist in a vacuum. We provide holistic support that encompasses physical, emotional, and social well-being, recognizing that care must meet the entire person, not just a set of symptoms.
Our philosophies are reflections of our deep commitment to TOTAL Maternal Support: Transforming Outcomes Through Aligned and Liberating Maternal Support. When it comes to...
We believe that all parents deserve equitable access to safe and supportive care during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. By advocating for systemic changes, education, and awareness, we aim to address and prevent maternal mortality disparities within marginalized communities. We work collaboratively with healthcare providers to ensure that all voices are heard and respected.
Data shows that breastfeeding can reduce infant mortality rates and improve maternal health. Recognizing the significant health benefits of breastfeeding for lactating people and babies, we advocate for breastfeeding long as possible offering support and education grounded in the historical trauma associated with breastfeeding and awareness of barriers to breastfeeding. While our support is ultimately rooted in informed feeding choices to enhance the well-being of families, particularly within communities of color, we do respect and honor the diverse choices that families make regarding how they choose to nourish their children.
We recognize that maternal health is interconnected with physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being. Preparing for childbirth goes far beyond Google searches, eating dates, and drinking red raspberry leaf tea. One needs to prepare all aspects of their being - mind, body, and spirit - in order to have the most fulfilling birthing experience. Our philosophy encompasses a holistic approach that prioritizes mental health support, community resources, and self-care practices, aiming to create an environment in which every parent can thrive.
We are committed to providing support that uplifts and acknowledges active fathers. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, and our services are designed to be inclusive and affirming for all dads, regardless of their journey to parenthood because they too are having a baby. Fathers and birth partners can be a deeply involved and essential part of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Their loving presence and knowledge is welcomed and needed - but they deserve support throughout the process as well.
We believe that knowledge is power. By providing comprehensive education and evidence-based information, we empower parents to make informed choices about their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experiences. Our goal is to demystify the birthing process and equip families with the tools they need for assurance and self-advocacy.
We wholeheartedly believe, birth is a core, normal part of the human experience, powered by the body's natural instincts and hormones for both mothers and fathers- not a medical event even if medical care is used in labor and delivery. Interventions and variations of birth are tools and options at every clients disposal to be used to ensure the safety and prevent suffering of mother and baby and not necessities unless in true emergences. However, everyone is entitled to comprehensive birth support - no matter the kind of birth desired or needed. Whether you want to birth naturally or utilize modern medicine it is your decision and yours alone, and will not be faced with judgment. We see you, we hear you, and we want what you want for you!
Your individual needs supersede any checklist or agenda. Our work is not a one size fit all! TMS addition to your support network in your childbearing year is catered to your specific situation and tailored to your personal desires and needs. We understand that every parent is different, and we will support you in a way that feels safe, comfortable, individualized, and complete.
Giving birth is similar to rolling dice. We do not know what we will get. We can hope for 7 or 11, but if you want to make God laugh tell Him your plans. The only thing predictable about birth is that it’s unpredictable. While we believe in the power and necessity of birth preparation, very few aspects of birth can be fully controlled. Together, we will set intentions and do the work to be able to go with the flow and ride the waves accordingly. Unexpected and adverse events can always occur. While we cannot control them, rest assured - you will not walk the journey unprepared nor alone.
Pain, in one form or another, is an inevitable part of the birthing experience. It should not be feared nor ran away from - rather, it should be embraced, accepted, and surrendered to. Suffering, however, is not necessary at all and can be eased!
Our support for you goes far beyond the birth space. As you navigate postpartum and parenthood, we are willing to walk alongside of you - fully, wholeheartedly, unconditionally - exactly the way you deserve.
We believe that every path to parenthood is valid and deserving of unwavering support. Our philosophy centers on the understanding that family building takes many forms, including through alternative reproductive solutions like surrogacy and gestational carrying. We are dedicated to providing compassionate, comprehensive care to all parties involved—from the gestational carrier who carries the precious life, to the intended parents who eagerly await their baby. We recognize that while intended parents may not give birth, their journey is filled with its own unique needs for support, education, and emotional guidance as they navigate the transition to life with a newborn. It is our mission to empower and uplift every person on this remarkable journey, ensuring they feel seen, heard, and cared for.
We honor the choices you make and strive to create a space where every individual feels respected, seen, and cared for. Our work is to empower you with the knowledge and support you need to not just survive birth, but to thrive in parenthood. Ultimately, we are working towards a future where families and communities are liberated from the systemic inequities that impact maternal health. We are with you on this journey to a healthier, more equitable community.
Birth is a reproductive justice issue. TMS is dedicated to transforming maternal and infant outcomes by providing holistic, client-centered care. Our work is grounded in the conviction that every birthing person deserves the knowledge, support, and autonomy to make informed decisions about their body and their family. Through collaboration and community-building, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and safe space where trust and respect are paramount. We are not just supporting births; we are healing the polluted waters of maternal and infant health, transforming legacies via liberated health and lasting equity for all.
