Hailing from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Dr. Kelly R. Little is a visionary leader, author, and nationally recognized expert dedicated to transforming families and elevating communities. As the Founder and CEO of the Urban Institute for Strengthening Families (UI4SF), Dr. Little is a recognized trailblazer in transforming maternal health. By strategically empowering men to become active, informed allies, his work directly addresses a critical national crisis: reducing the 85% of maternal deaths that are entirely preventable.
A highly decorated combat veteran with over 24 years of honorable service in the U.S. Army and National Guard, Dr. Little transitioned his leadership from the military to human services. He spent nearly two decades in public administration, where he successfully shifted service delivery paradigms by championing responsible fatherhood. It was here that he pioneered his groundbreaking approach to "doula’ing" fathers—equipping and mentoring men to serve as emotionally intelligent, physically present advocates for mothers throughout pregnancy, labor, and postpartum recovery.
Dr. Little holds an undergraduate degree from UNC-Charlotte, alongside an MBA and a Master of Science in Leadership from Pfeiffer University. He is an Executive Coach, a Certified Mindfulness and Meditation Teacher, and a dedicated advocate whose personal journey overcoming obstacles in Philly fuels his life’s mission: dismantling systemic healthcare and social barriers to ensure both fathers and mothers thrive.
